Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Elizabeth Morrison left Louisiana with her husband, who was then on the faculty of Louisiana State University, to go to Washington, D.C., to help with the war effort. She joined the typing pool in the Land Lease Administration, headed by Edward R. Stettinius. In 1945, four individuals who had worked on the Manhattan project-John L. Balderston, Jr., Dieter M. Gruen, W.J. McLean, and David B.
